Sarah Lupul, RMSW

Registered Master Social Worker — Psychotherapist

Hello,

Sarah here — wanting to pass on a greeting and a welcome to my practice. When I opened my practice, I hoped to create an inviting, authentic space where we can work together. It is a humbling experience to be trusted with someone’s private struggles. I want to convey my respect and appreciation for your trust in my services. And if you don’t trust me yet, thanks for the opportunity to let me try.

Credentials

Registered Master Social Worker with the Alberta College of Social Work.

License number: 14293

Please feel free to look me up to ensure you are working with a trustworthy service provider in good standing.

Specializations

I specialize in trauma therapy, couples therapy, and psychosocial treatment. I work with individuals and couples carrying the kind of weight that doesn’t move on its own — long-standing destructive patterns, the aftermath of difficult experiences, the places where life has gotten stuck.

My work experience includes:

• Serving military members

• Veterans

• Frontline workers (firefighters, nurses, teachers, police, and others)

• Adults

• Couples

• Teens 14 and older

Treatment Modalities

• Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

• Gottman Couples Therapy — Level 1, addictions, PTSD, infidelity

• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

• Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

I also integrate strengths-based, client-centered, narrative, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and Socratic questioning into a tailored treatment plan for individual or couples work.

What to Expect If You Work With Me

You get an authentic person who cares about your outcomes. As much as I will enjoy working with you, I want you to eventually leave me feeling like you have a handle on your life. This means I will be honest with you. I will maintain my due diligence to offer you certified techniques that are effective and make sense. I believe in practical application of clinical methods that result in you believing you are living your life of thriving instead of surviving. To accomplish this, we need to talk about what is wrong, and then we need to set up actions that you can practice within your life to make what’s wrong right again (within reason). That is how change happens.

Before you roll your eyes at the thought of more work — I am not talking about sheets of homework passed off as a check-in-the-box at the end of session. I am talking about picking up on something in session that I think would benefit from more attention in your real life. My office is a single shot of time in your daily life. I believe sessions are for the hard work, the resets, the introduction of skills, the safe place to exfoliate your pain and emotions. Then, life awaits. Out there is where the progress from all your hard work needs to sustain itself.

So anything I give you will be applicable to what suits your needs at the time. This goes for individual or couples work. You can tell me “Sarah, not today.” I will respect that. I’ll probably try again if necessary, or leave it be. Your feedback matters. But I am also me. And I own a t-shirt that clearly states “I am NOT bossy; I am just aggressively helpful.” So clearly, my claims are unquestionably legitimate.

You Will Also Get a Bella

Bella is my service dog, sanctioned by the Alberta Government — service number 4181. She is 84 pounds of unconditional love with a side of brown-eyed innocence.

She attends my sessions with me. In session, she will wish to greet you and spread a little tenderness. She is very polite and well trained. If you need no tenderness, she will graciously respect your boundaries. I allow her free reign in the office if my clients are comfortable interacting with her. If you are uncomfortable, she will stay at my feet. She is helpful for tactile stimulation (especially for trauma processing), visual cues (she paces when sensing anxiety and retreats from anger), and she’s also great for breaking up conversations and reducing tension.

Outside the office, she is my service dog. Inside the office, you can squeeze her, tease her, then leave her — until next time.

Bernedoodle, 3 years old. Reluctant backpack porter, tennis enthusiast, swimmer of cold lakes.
